The estate and its history
Origins
The area of Viesca, located in the heart of Tuscany, has been reported to have been inhabited since Roman times, and the Latin place names are evidence of this. Owned by the Conti Guidi in the 1200s, it went through a troubled period of wars that led to the decline of the castle of Viesca. Around 1400 it will be under the control of the city of Florence, thus begins a new period of partition and division of the land of Viesca until, in the late 1700s, the property passes from the Medici-Tornaquinci family to the Martelli family. In 1879 it was the Marchesa Nerli who became the owner, making it an “agricultural school” under the influence and proximity of Don Bosco. Years of changes of ownership followed, until in 1950 it was Salvatore and Wanda Ferragamo, who fell in love with the estate and bought it, intending to make it a private residence. With the arrival of the Ferragamo family, a major restoration and architectural recovery began, bringing back to its original beauty the Manor Villa and the neighboring farmhouses, which thus became the ideal place to spend summers and free time with the entire family.

A tradition
to be preserved
In the grounds of Villa Viesca we now find the Agricultural Museum, a space with more than three hundred objects and works of art that tell the story of Tuscan farming civilization and hand down its memory. The restoration and architectural recovery of the entire Viesca Estate was driven by the desire to breathe new life into this place, now a perfect continuum between past, present and future. A place with a thousand souls that thus hands down its traditions and history. The museum was born with time, as objects and working tools belonging to the farming families who had lived and worked in Viesca were collected.
